I’m not sure how long ago I discovered coconut oil, but it’s a life changer! This post is designed to offer some uses for coconut oil on your baby. Coconut oil is an anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antioxidant, and antimicrobial among many other things. This means you can use it on your baby for nearly everything. Baby has a case of acne? Coconut oil. Diaper rash? Coconut oil. Cradle cap? Yes you guessed it, coconut oil.
I mentioned in a previous post about sleep, you can use lavender essential oils on your baby to facilitate sleep. Place a drop or two of lavender oil in your palm and mix it with 1/2 teaspoon of coconut oil.
One of the many reasons I love using coconut oil for everything baby related is because I don’t worry if baby eats some of it. It’s actually just as good for you to eat it as it is to use on your skin.
For baby acne just spread a thin layer of coconut oil over baby’s affected area and let the antibacterial properties go to work. It’s safe to leave on baby until the next bath, then just reapply until the acne resolves.
The antimicrobial effect of coconut oil lends itself to combatting diaper rash as well. Just spread a thin layer of coconut oil on the affected area in place of diaper cream.
Cradle cap is very easily resolved with some coconut oil. Use 1/2 tablespoon on your babies head massage and let it sit for at least an hour, then use a fine tooth comb to remove the plaque build up from your babies scalp. The oil with make babies hair greasy so be sure to bathe baby after.
Other uses include: Eczema, tooth paste, thrush, lotion, chapped lips, bug bites, general bumps or bruises. Don’t use coconut oil for anything eye related. It will make your vision blurry due to the oils.
*Disclaimer: The products I link in my blog are the actual products I use. I won’t recommend anything I don’t love.
