Now that I have two kids I need to get a little creative with outings. I have an ergo baby carrier I like to put my son in and it sure does come in handy in the grocery store or any store for that matter. I put my daughter in the cart and I can still have both hands free to load the groceries on the belt to check out.
Baby wearing is when you place your baby in a sling or carrier and wear them on your body. I recently had an ah-ha moment when thinking about baby wearing. I have known a mother and her infant are hard-wired to expect unity and for that unity to continue after birth.
The regulatory information acquired by infants from their mothers when baby wearing impacts cardiovascular function, sleep rhythms, immune function and hormone levels to name a few. My ah-ha moment came when I remembered how the bodies lymph system works. Now, stay with me here because it’s going to get a little scientific.
- Since the lymphatic system does not have a heart to pump it, its upward movement depends on the motions of the muscle and joint pumps.
- As it moves upward toward the neck the lymph passes through lymph nodes which filter it to remove debris and pathogens.
So our tiny little helpless infants who can barely move really rely on us to move them. The lymph system needs us to create the motion in the muscles and swaying back and forth pumping joints to get fluid moving. By baby wearing it facilitates movement in your baby thereby making their lymph system work! Ah-ha I knew I wanted to snuggle my baby for a good reason!
